Chicago Plutocrats of hip hop

I think that the spotlight has been on Chicago for some time. Music, Performing Arts, Sports, Landmarks, you name it, Chicago is always at the top of its game. We are home to the Oprah Show, the richest woman in the world and the first Black President of the United States. We are home to one of the funniest comedians ever, Bernie Mack. We are home of the legendary Bulls championship winning streak, the Cubs, Sox, the Bears and Donovan McNabb. We are home to some of the best artists of all times - Who can touch Quincy Jones or Earth Wind & Fire? Curtis Mayfield bought the kool swagga out in his music before it even had a name. What about Chaka Khan? When you speak of rap/hip hop, there's Kanye, Common, Twista, Rhymefest, Lupe Fiasco, Da Brat, Shawna, No ID, Do or Die, Soldja Boy (Luda don't count he claims the south). Then there's the golden voices, R Kelly, Jennifer Hudson, Avant, Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke . Let's roll off some famous performing artist names born in the Chi: Sallie Richardson, Robert Townsend, Rondell Sheridan, Terrance Howard, Tempest Bledsoe.. I haven't even scratched the surface. Now we got N.o.B. growing up, blowing up from their roots here in the Cago. I want to encourage and remind all my Chi-town neighbors - we got somethin special, I mean real special, there is a sleeping giant in all of us, it's God breathed and it's thick in the air here. So let's pull together in Unity and build this legacy. Perhaps we can make Chicago "The Capital of Excellence, put Chicago on the map as the Capital of #1" for the Nation, the Whole Nation. Please feel free to Recognize anyone that I may have left off in the comment section. To all my Chi-champions

I can understand your point of view better now, maybe I was a little radical because I like to show and see the ugly side of things so it can be corrected or avoided. I could do myself, but I have nothing to do with Chicago. My intention here was to show people another side of your beautiful article, so maybe they wanted to show another side of your city.

Without discussion we can't go far in social development. Thanks for explaining your point of view to us!

Handshake! (smile)

Thanks for your comment Douglas. I certainly understand where you are coming from. As you know people write their perspectives all of the time in newspapers, magazines, blogs etc. I am certainly not a writer, however, the purpose of my blogging was to make a statement based on where I am at, my perspective, that's what makes it real - I can't do phony man. I am not one to debate or try to pull anyone on the side my opinion However, my opinion of Chicago and my passion for Chicago is mine - wasn't speaking for anyone else or what they think. Matter of fact, I welcome anyone to share their passion of what they like and for that matter what they hate about their hometown - it's up them. I'm just doing me. And with that I'm going to continue to shout that my hometown Chicago is where it's at. I'm strong enough that I can stand alone with my statement - that means if I were the only one that felt that way - for me - because these are my thoughts that good enough for me - ya understand? Let me assure you that my statement about Chicago being the Capitol of Number is not meant to hurt feelins. I'll embrace whatever you feel about your hometown. Who am I to sway your feelings - they belong to you not me. Hell, I say everyone should be happy, you feel me. Nevertheless, you'll never hear me speak negativity about anything or anybody, It's destructive and personally I don't believe in it. But like I said, that's just me, and at the end of the day, all I do is me. Keep up the good work with your music. Wishing you the best! good thing I have a Chicago Bulls T-shir then...

despite the fact that I truly admire most of these artists that you pointed here, I have to disagree with you in the argument.

every city has it's great talents, every city has flaws too... instead of using great names to praise your hometown, why don't you point out things that are wrong and could be corrected by normal people?

don't get me wrong, I liked your article.. it's good to praise your city, everybody does that, but I'm thinking that it's a little meaningless to do that...
